AI search monitoring tools track how often ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI answers mention your brand, which sources they cite, and how they describe you. The hard part is trusting the numbers, because AI answers change from one run to the next.
We compared 12 AI search monitoring tools on how they collect answers, how often they refresh, and what you learn beyond a mention count. Prices checked in September 2026.
Disclosure: we build Orchly, an agentic AI search optimization platform, so we're one of the tools here. We've signed up for and used most of the others ourselves, and some of what we share comes from customers who switched to us from them. Either way, we've tried to give you the good and the bad on every tool, ours included, so you can make the right call.

1. Orchly: best AI search monitoring tool that also improves your visibility
Orchly's AI search monitoring reads answers the way your buyers see them. Prompts run daily through the real ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews interfaces from different locations, not through a model API.
That matters more than it sounds. A 2026 Surfer study found that only 15% to 24% of brands matched between API responses and what the ChatGPT interface actually showed.
What you can see
- Four headline metrics. AI Visibility Score, Share of Voice, average sentiment and average position, each tracked over time and against competitors, by engine and by topic.
- Prompts split by brand and intent. Branded vs non-branded, and commercial, informational or transactional. A drop in non-branded commercial prompts is the one to worry about.
- Prompt research. Orchly suggests prompts from your market, site and competitors, so you monitor the questions buyers ask rather than the ones you guessed.
- Citations and Mention Gap. Every domain and URL AI cites, split by owner and source type. Mention Gap then shows the cited sources that name your competitors but not you.
Monitoring that goes past sentiment
- Perception. The attributes AI links to your brand, how competitors compare on each one, and the objections AI raises when buyers ask about you.
- Fact check. Every claim AI makes about you is checked against your Brand Brain, a record of your real products, pricing and positioning. Contradictions are flagged for review.
- Query fan-outs. The background searches ChatGPT runs before it answers, which show why a competitor got cited instead of you.
- AI shopping. For e-commerce, Orchly monitors your products in ChatGPT shopping answers, including their position and the price AI quotes against your catalog.
Traffic, not just mentions
- AI traffic analytics. Which AI crawlers visit which pages, and how many real visitors AI engines send you. Available on Pro.
- Search Console and GA4. Organic clicks, conversions and revenue from Google Search Console and GA4 sit next to your AI numbers, so you can see what visibility is worth.
When you're ready to act
Monitoring is where Orchly starts, not where it stops. The Content Agent turns gaps into article and refresh tasks, the Activation Agent contacts the sources AI cites, and the Site Health Agent fixes technical issues. You approve the work, and it gets published.
Where Orchly falls short
- Three engines included. Gemini, AI Mode, Claude and Grok are add-ons below Enterprise, and Copilot isn't tracked.
- No prompt volume estimates. You can see which prompts matter to your market, but not how often each one is asked.
- Small entry plan. 25 prompts and 1 user on Essential.
Pricing: Essential $49/month (25 prompts refreshed daily). Pro $125/month (100 prompts, 5 users, AI traffic analytics). 7-day free trial.
Best for: teams that need numbers they can trust and a way to act on them.

2. Peec AI: best pure monitoring tool
Peec AI is the tool ChatGPT and Google AI Mode recommend most often when people ask how to track their brand across AI engines. It scrapes the real interfaces daily, gives every plan unlimited seats, and in September 2026 added Brand Perception and GA4-based AI referral tracking.
- Where it falls short. 3 engines per plan, Claude and Grok as premium upgrades, and relative prompt volume on a 1-to-5 scale rather than real numbers.
Pricing: Starter about €85/month (50 prompts).
Best for: teams that want clean, reliable tracking and many seats.
3. Otterly.AI: best low-cost monitoring
Otterly.AI is the cheapest credible monitor, with ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot included from $29 a month. It added sentiment, an API and MCP server, and Agent Analytics for AI bot logs during 2026.
- Where it falls short. Only 15 prompts on Lite. AI Mode, Gemini and Claude are paid add-ons, and ChatGPT ads tracking was paused in September 2026.
Pricing: Lite $29/month (15 prompts), Standard $189/month (100 prompts).
Best for: small teams and founders.
4. Profound: best for enterprise monitoring
Profound captures answers through the front-end interface across 9 engines and adds prompt volume from a consumer panel, which few tools offer. Since September 2026 it sells only custom Enterprise plans.
- Where it falls short. No self-serve price, and the trial covers only 3 engines for 7 days.
Pricing: Custom, Enterprise only.
Best for: Fortune 500 brands.
5. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: best for SEO teams on Semrush
Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit monitors ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity inside the SEO suite, with prompt volume estimates.
- Where it falls short. 25 prompts per domain, and brand performance data updates weekly. Semrush doesn't disclose how it collects answers.
Pricing: $99/month per domain, billed yearly.
Best for: teams already paying for Semrush.
6. Ahrefs Brand Radar: best for category-wide monitoring
Ahrefs Brand Radar monitors any brand across more than 470 million prompts modeled from keyword data, so you can see your category without setting up prompts first.
- Where it falls short. The prompts are synthetic, not real conversations, and tracking your own prompts costs extra and needs a paid Ahrefs plan.
Pricing: AI Visibility Index from $199/month per platform, sold on its own. Custom prompts need an Ahrefs plan.
Best for: competitive research.
7. Scrunch: best for monitoring AI crawlers
Scrunch pairs answer monitoring with agent traffic analytics, so you see how AI bots move through your site. It collects answers through a mix of browser automation and APIs.
- Where it falls short. Plans start at $250 a month billed yearly, and reviewers say reporting and exports are limited.
Pricing: Starter $300/month ($250 billed yearly).
Best for: technical teams.
8. AthenaHQ: best for monitoring many engines
AthenaHQ monitors up to 11 models on its paid plan, including Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI, and has a free tier with 5 engines.
- Where it falls short. Credits run out fast, with nothing between free and $295.
Pricing: Free tier. Starter $295/month.
Best for: broad engine coverage.
9. ZipTie: best for AI Overviews next to organic results
ZipTie monitors AI Overviews alongside the top 10 organic results, plus ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, Copilot and Gemini, and lets you set the refresh cadence per prompt.
- Where it falls short. No Claude, and usage-based pricing is hard to predict. Content, API and MCP cost extra.
Pricing: usage-based, from about $43/month.
Best for: SEOs focused on Google's AI features.
10. SE Visible: best for monitoring many brands
SE Ranking's SE Visible prices by brand with unlimited seats, and tracks both linked and unlinked mentions across 5 engines.
- Where it falls short. Claude is still listed as coming soon, there's no Grok or Copilot, and it tracks without creating content or doing outreach.
Pricing: Basic $99/month (3 brands).
Best for: agencies.
11. Similarweb AI Brand Visibility: best for AI referral traffic data
Similarweb combines 150 daily-tracked prompts with its clickstream panel, so you can see AI referral traffic to you and your competitors.
- Where it falls short. 1 user per plan and short data history on the entry tier.
Pricing: from $99/month.
Best for: teams that want market-level AI traffic data.
12. Knowatoa: best budget pick with writing agents
Knowatoa starts at $59 a month for ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode, and its $199 Growth plan adds Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Meta AI, plus writing and social agents launched in May 2026.
- Where it falls short. The Starter plan sends a weekly digest, prompt limits aren't published, and there's no Grok or Copilot.
Pricing: Starter $59/month, Growth $199/month.
Best for: small teams that want tracking plus light content help.
How to tell if an AI monitoring tool's numbers are real
AI answers are unstable by design. Before you trust any dashboard, check four things.
- Does it capture the real interface or call an API? In Surfer's 2026 study, API answers and interface answers agreed on only 15% to 24% of brands. ChatGPT's interface also cited about 12 sources per answer, against 3 from the API.
- Does it report a rate, not a single run? SparkToro and Gumshoe ran the same prompts nearly 3,000 times in January 2026. Two answers had the same list of brands less than 1% of the time, but top brands still showed up in 55% to 77% of answers. Visibility share over many runs is the number to watch.
- How often does it refresh? Ahrefs found AI Overview content changes 70% of the time between checks, about every 2 days. Weekly data misses most of that.
- Does it track each engine separately? Ahrefs found AI Overviews and AI Mode cite the same URLs only 13.7% of the time. Winning one doesn't mean you're winning the other.
Which AI search monitoring tool should you choose?
- You want trustworthy data and a way to act on it: Orchly.
- You only need clean tracking with unlimited seats: Peec AI.
- You're on a tight budget: Otterly.AI.
- You're a large enterprise: Profound.
