12 Best AI Search Optimization Tools in 2026 (By What They Do)

AI search optimization means getting your brand mentioned, cited and described correctly in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode. Most tools sold for it only track. Fewer tell you what to change, and very few do the work.

This list sorts 12 AI search optimization tools by which of those three jobs they actually do. Prices checked in September 2026.

Disclosure: we build Orchly, an agentic AI search optimization platform, so we're one of the tools here. We've signed up for and used most of the others ourselves, and some of what we share comes from customers who switched to us from them. Either way, we've tried to give you the good and the bad on every tool, ours included, so you can make the right call.

1. Orchly: best agentic AI search optimization tool to improve AI visibility

Orchly's AI visibility overview

Orchly is an agentic AI search optimization platform. It measures your visibility across AI engines and Google, then its agents work the four levers that actually move AI answers: your content, the sources AI cites, your site's technical health, and the facts AI repeats about you.

Lever 1: content AI can cite

  • Find the gaps. Every prompt is tagged branded or non-branded, and commercial, informational or transactional, so you can see the buyer questions where competitors show up and you don't.

  • See what AI searches for. Before ChatGPT answers, it runs its own web searches. Orchly shows these query fan-outs, which tell you what your pages need to rank for to get pulled in.

  • Let the Content Agent write and refresh. It turns those gaps into tasks, new articles and page refreshes. Approve one, and the AI article writer drafts it in your voice and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Framer, Wix, Sanity or Ghost.

Lever 2: the sources AI trusts

Ahrefs found in 2026 that only 37.9% of AI citations come from pages in Google's top 10. The rest come from listicles, reviews, Reddit threads and publishers you don't own.

  • Mention Gap. For each top-cited source, see which competitors it names and whether it names you.

  • Activation Agent. It finds those publishers, plus Reddit threads, YouTube videos and new search results in your category, and sends link building and citation outreach from your Gmail, Zoho Mail or SMTP account.

Lever 3: a site AI can read

  • Site Health Agent. It audits every page for technical SEO and AI search issues, like blocked AI crawlers, missing schema or pages Google never indexed, and ranks the fixes.

  • AI traffic analytics. See which AI crawlers reach which pages, and how many real visitors ChatGPT and Perplexity send back. Available on Pro.

Lever 4: facts AI gets right

  • Perception. The attributes AI links to your brand, where each competitor stands on them, and the objections buyers hear when they ask about you.

  • Fact check against your Brand Brain. Orchly keeps a record of your products, pricing, audience and positioning, and checks every AI claim against it. Wrong prices and "missing" features get flagged, so you can fix the source.

Proof it's working

AI visibility means little if it doesn't turn into traffic. Orchly puts Google Search Console and GA4 data, including conversions and revenue, next to your AI numbers, and Page 360 shows both for every URL.

Where Orchly falls short

  • Engine add-ons. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews are included. Gemini, AI Mode, Claude and Grok cost extra below Enterprise.
  • Small entry plan. Essential tracks 25 prompts for 1 user. Most teams end up on Pro.
  • No prompt volume panel. Orchly suggests prompts from your market and site, but doesn't estimate how often each prompt is asked.

Pricing: Essential $49/month (25 prompts, 20 articles, 1 site). Pro $125/month (100 prompts, 50 articles, 3 sites, 5 users, AI traffic, custom agents). 7-day free trial.
Best for: teams that want AI visibility to go up, not just be measured.

2. Writesonic: best content-first GEO suite

Writesonic AI article writer for GEO content

Writesonic started as an AI writer and added GEO tracking, citation gaps and an Action Center. Content creation and WordPress publishing are built in, and Search Console connects on every plan.

  • What it does: tracks, recommends and writes.
  • Where it falls short. Plans below Enterprise track only ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews. Perplexity and Claude need Enterprise, and sentiment starts at $399 a month.

Pricing: Starter $79/month billed yearly (50 prompts). Growth $399/month.
Best for: content teams whose main output is articles.

3. AirOps: best for content operations at scale

AirOps content workflow builder

AirOps is a workflow platform for content teams. You build repeatable pipelines for briefs, refreshes and new pages, and it now adds AI visibility data to guide them.

  • What it does: executes through custom workflows, with visibility on paid plans.
  • Where it falls short. The free Solo plan only covers ChatGPT insights, and the Pro price isn't published. Building workflows takes setup time.

Pricing: Free Solo plan. Pro and Enterprise by quote.
Best for: content ops teams that want to build their own automation.

4. Surfer: best for on-page content optimization

Surfer AI Tracker for AI search visibility

Surfer is best known for its content editor, which scores drafts against top-ranking pages. Its AI Tracker adds ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews and AI Mode tracking with a mention gap view, and since July 2026 it's also sold on its own.

  • What it does: recommends and scores content; tracks as a separate product.
  • Where it falls short. Optimization is based on search results, not on the sources AI engines cite. No Claude, and the entry bundle tracks ChatGPT weekly only.

Pricing: plans from $99/month billed yearly. AI Tracker sold separately.
Best for: SEO writers optimizing existing pages.

5. Frase: best budget research-to-publish tool

Frase covers research, writing, GEO scoring and publishing, and flags decaying content with its Content Guard feature.

  • What it does: writes, optimizes and publishes; tracks on higher plans.
  • Where it falls short. Starter and Professional track only ChatGPT and Google AI. Perplexity, Claude and Gemini need the $239 Scale plan, and prompt limits aren't published.

Pricing: Starter $39/month, Professional $103/month, Scale $239/month (yearly).
Best for: small teams that want writing and optimization cheaply.

6. AthenaHQ: best for guided recommendations across many engines

AthenaHQ AI search visibility dashboard

AthenaHQ tracks up to 11 models and pairs them with an Action Center that suggests on-page and off-page fixes, plus a content optimization agent.

  • What it does: tracks and recommends, with light content help.
  • Where it falls short. Credits run out quickly, there's nothing between the free plan and $295, and hallucination detection is Enterprise only.

Pricing: Free tier. Starter $295/month (11 models).
Best for: growth teams that want many engines and clear direction.

7. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: best inside an SEO suite

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit brand performance report

Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit adds ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity tracking, prompt volume estimates and an AI search site audit to the SEO tools many teams already use.

  • What it does: tracks and recommends.
  • Where it falls short. 25 prompts per domain, weekly brand performance data, and it doesn't make the changes for you.

Pricing: $99/month per domain, billed yearly.
Best for: SEO teams already on Semrush.

8. Profound: best for enterprise programs

Profound answer engine insights dashboard

Profound tracks 9 engines, offers prompt volume from a consumer panel, and runs AI Marketer agents that draft and publish content. In September 2026 it removed its self-serve plans.

  • What it does: tracks, recommends and executes, with agent work on credits.
  • Where it falls short. Enterprise contracts only, with no published price.

Pricing: Custom. Free 7-day trial on 3 engines.
Best for: Fortune 500 teams with a dedicated AI search budget.

9. Scrunch: best for technical AI optimization

Scrunch AI visibility and AI agent traffic dashboard

Scrunch focuses on how AI crawlers read your site. Its Agent Experience Platform (AXP) serves AI-friendly versions of your pages to bots.

  • What it does: tracks and changes what AI crawlers receive.
  • Where it falls short. Plans start at $250 a month on yearly billing, plus $25 per extra seat, and AXP needs developer time. There's a 7-day free trial.

Pricing: Starter $300/month ($250 billed yearly).
Best for: teams with engineers who own the site.

10. Search Atlas: best for automated on-page fixes

Search Atlas bundles SEO tools with LLM visibility tracking, and its OTTO feature pushes schema, internal links and on-page changes to your site through a script.

  • What it does: tracks and applies technical fixes automatically.
  • Where it falls short. Changes made through a JavaScript pixel can be fragile, and AI tracking on lower plans refreshes every few days.

Pricing: from $99/month. OTTO is an add-on.
Best for: SEO agencies managing many client sites.

11. Peec AI: best tracker with prioritized actions

Peec AI dashboard showing brand visibility across AI engines

Peec AI is a monitoring tool at heart, but its Actions feature, added in February 2026, scores citation sources and splits the work into on-page and off-page tasks.

  • What it does: tracks and recommends. You do the work.
  • Where it falls short. 3 engines per plan, Claude as a premium upgrade, and no content or outreach.

Pricing: Starter about €85/month (50 prompts).
Best for: teams with writers and PR people ready to act.

12. HubSpot AEO: best cheap starting point for HubSpot users

XFunnel AI search dashboard, now part of HubSpot AEO

HubSpot AEO, built on its acquisition of XFunnel, launched in public beta in April 2026. It tracks visibility, sentiment and citations and suggests next steps.

  • What it does: tracks and recommends.
  • Where it falls short. Only ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, 25 prompts, and it's still in beta. Its recommendations turn into drafts inside HubSpot, not on your own CMS.

Pricing: $50/month ($45 billed yearly), or included in Marketing Hub Pro and Enterprise.
Best for: HubSpot customers testing AI search for the first time.

What is AI search optimization?

AI search optimization is the practice of improving how often, how prominently and how accurately your brand appears in AI-generated answers. You'll also see it called generative engine optimization (GEO) or answer engine optimization (AEO).

  • GEO usually refers to chat assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity.
  • AEO usually refers to answer features in search, such as Google AI Overviews and AI Mode.
  • SEO is still the base. Pages that aren't indexed or trusted by Google rarely get cited by AI.

In practice, most teams treat GEO and AEO as the same job with different names.

Why it matters in 2026

  • AI Overviews are now the default. Similarweb data from July 2026 shows AI Overviews on 43% of Google searches, up from 15% a year earlier.
  • Fewer clicks reach websites. 68% of Google searches ended without a click in early 2026, according to SparkToro and Similarweb.
  • ChatGPT is a search engine for many buyers. OpenAI reported more than 900 million weekly users in February 2026.

If a buyer asks an AI assistant for the best tool in your category and you're not in the answer, you never get the visit to convert.

How to choose an AI search optimization tool

  • Decide who will do the work. If you have writers and an outreach person, a tracker with good recommendations may be enough. If you don't, pick a tool that executes.
  • Check the engines on your plan. Many tools include 3 engines and charge extra for Claude, Gemini or AI Mode.
  • Ask how answers are collected. A 2026 Surfer study found that only 15% to 24% of brands matched between API responses and the real ChatGPT interface.
  • Connect it to revenue. Pick a tool that shows whether AI visibility turns into traffic and conversions, not just mentions.
